PSA nitrogen plant uses technology that uses two towers which are filled with carbon molecular sieve (CMS). The PSA plant takes the air from atmosphere which is purified and compressed which is then moved through the absorbers of the plant machinery. Nitrogen is an important industrial gas which is used on a large scale in chemical industry for making fertilizers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes, and explosives. How PSA Nitrogen Plant Works

PSA nitrogen plant is manufactured with advanced Pressure Swing Adsorption technology. As is well-known, oxygen constitutes around 20-21% of atmospheric air. PSA oxygen generator uses Zeolite molecular sieves to separate nitrogen the air. Nitrogen with high purity is delivered whereas the oxygen absorbed by the molecular sieves is directed back into the air through the exhaust pipe. The PSA plants have now become popular for use in industries for production of onsite nitrogen, which is called as the largest industrial gas.

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process is made up two vessels filled with molecular sieves and activated alumina. Compressed air is passed through one vessel at 30 degrees C and nitrogen is generated as a product gas. Nitrogen is discharged as an exhaust gas back into atmosphere. When the molecular sieve bed is saturated, the process is switched to the other bed by automatic valves for oxygen generation. It is done while allowing the saturated bed to undergo regeneration by depressurization and purging to atmospheric pressure. Two vessels keep working alternately in nitrogen production and regeneration allowing oxygen is available to the process.
